Hologram depicting Bang Orchestra members Vince Lawrence and Evie, ca. late 1980s.

The first Bang Orchestra was signed to Geffen Records and released the single ''Sample That,'' which went to No. 5 on the Billboard Dance chart in 1986. But Evie says the label thought Bang's sounds were too underground to release on an album, so the band ended up recording independent singles for Trax Records. After Lawrence and Evie formed the production company J.X. Bang and concentrated more on producing other artists, they quit making Bang Orchestra records in late 1987.
