Dwight Porter '78 of Brooklyn, New York examines photo negatives during Interphase, Summer 1974.
In the photography workshop, students learned fundamental camera and darkroom techniques, as well as the various aesthetic and technical problems involved in black-and-white photography. The workshop was designed to increase the students' awareness of visual sensation, and their ability to view their work and the work of others with critical intelligence. Film, chemicals, darkroom facilities, cameras, and light meters were provided by M. I. T.

About Project Interphase
Established in 1969, Project Interphase (today Interphase EDGE) is a scholar enrichment program for incoming freshman. It includes a seven-week summer session as well as programming during the academic year to help ease the transition to MIT and to build community among new students.
