Roland Kwami Amoa, a graduate student in economics and part-time instructor from Abutia Kloe, Via Ho, Ghana, attended the University of Ghana. He studied under an Institute of International Education (IIE) grant and an MIT fellowship. The photo was taken by the MIT News Office for the United States Information Agency (USIA), a public diplomacy program formed in 1953 and dissolved in 1999.
